Initial site survey - PEA

Preliminary Ecological Appraisal (PEA) is an assessment of habitats and features present or potentially present on site (the proposed development) and in the surrounding area (the zone of influence) that may support protected species.

Prior to a site visit, our team review information provided and carry out a desktop survey, following which a date is agreed for a site visit.

We collect habitat data following UK Habitat Classification System, which is the most comprehensive habitat recording system, aligned with Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG). We follow current best practice as per Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM). We use specialist equipment, including drone footage where permitted for comprehensive data gathering.

The findings of the PEA are provided in a dedicated report, with an assessment of potential impacts, together with recommendations, which may include further surveys, mitigation and/or compensation.

PEA surveys can be done any time of the year.

Initial site survey - PRA

Preliminary Bat Roost Assessment (PRA) is an initial assessment of habitat suitability for supporting bats. Typical habitats surveyed are trees, buildings and other natural and artificial structures and surrounding areas.

Prior to undertaking a site visit, our team conduct a review of information provided and a desktop survey, following which a date is agreed for a site visit. During PRA visit, we assess habitat suitability for bats and look for any evidence of bat presence. We follow current best practice provided by Bat Conservation Trust. All our survey visits are carried out by a licensed bat surveyor, which allows for a full assessment where bats are present.

Field results are provided in a dedicated report, together with an assessment of potential impacts, and recommendations, which may include further surveys, mitigation and/or compensation.

PRA surveys can be done any time of the year.
